The Opposite Distracts

When you’re doing something different than the rest of your peers, and you feel like you’re opposing.
When you’re sticking to an unconventional career, like freelancing, when so many others are seeking the comfort of certainty.
When you’re betting months on a losing proposition that you think will turn around.

You find yourself tempted to right yourself. Being on the opposite side feels like a major distraction. It feels like you’re not making progress at all.

But you got here because you read the trends, you saw reality in the big picture, you followed a logic, and you created a set of principles.

You removed your ego. You made the courageous act of risking to be ridiculed back when you started, and every week since, and still are. You’re still removing your ego and risking to be ridiculed.

You know what being stubborn feels like, and this isn’t it. You’re not having a tantrum. You’re not being a bad player. You’re not failing at having good character.

You chose this. You are being generous. You’re going to be helping people make progress when they’re ready for you.

But you’re still tempted to fall in line.

The good news is that being a little out of line is supposed to feel distracting.

The good news is that you’ve made your deliberation when your head was clear.

The good news is that your people, the people you want to serve, they’ll be happy you made the hard decisions to keep going, that you weren’t distracted, even when you wanted to be.
